Our guided reading sessions this half term are based on the book 'Ruby's Worry'. We are starting this term doing whole class guided reading where we will share a text and complete activities based on that text using VIPERS (Vocabulary, Infer, Predict, Explain, Retrieve and Sequence/ Summarise).
We will also be aiming to listen to individual readers at least once a week. Could you please make sure your child has their reading diary and reading book in each day as this day may vary.
Reading books should now have been sent home for you to read and enjoy together and we ask parents to support their children with their reading on a nightly basis. Reading books will be changed on a Monday and Thursday. Between these days please encourage your child to read their school book more than once as this aids fluency and understanding. Feel free to also read your own books from home and online books.

Common Exception Words
Common Exception Words are words that the children are expected to be able to read and write by the end of the academic year. We will do lots of work on these words within our English and Phonics lessons and you might also see them popping up in your child's spellings.
Below is a word mat listing each of the words included in the Year 1 and Year 2 lists. I have also added a Power point of the words so you can practise reading them at home.
