This second half term we'll be using a blended learning project based on the Industrial Revolution.

Our Literacy work will be taught through the beautiful text The Selfish Giant by Oscar Wilde.


Alongside this we will be reading and developing our writing skills through other books set in the Victorian era such as  Wild Boy by Rob Lloyd Jones,  Cogheart by Peter Bunzl as well as the Christmas Classic - A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens.




We shall start off our learning this first half term with a whole class text 'Here We Are by Oliver Jeffers.

Our work will form part of our recovery curriculum, with a focus on readjusting to being back in school and exploring our thoughts and feelings about the world in which we live.


Following on from this we shall continue to develop our Literacy writing skills using the beautiful text, Of Thee I Sing, written by Barack Obama. This inspirational book was written to his daughters encouraging them to , dream big and aspire to be whoever they want to be using positive American role models.

Alongside this, we will be using the text Young Gifted and Black, full of inspirational Black heroes from past and present.







This first half term we shall be looking at texts from African cultures. We'll start off using a film clip Zahra to inspire our narrative writing. Next we'll follow a literacy unit based on the text The Hunter by Paul Geraghty. Our guided reading will use the text Journey to Jo'berg by Beverley Naidoo. Following on from this we'll use our visit to Chester Zoo to focus on animal conservation and the protection of  habitats. Our writing will focus on persuasion debate and argument linked to current environmental issues.
