Reading Homework

During the first few weeks of school all children will be heard reading by the class teacher and children will be given reading books that are suitable for their reading age and ability. Reading books will be collected in every Monday and Thursday and teacher's will change books and pick up and messages that have been left in Reading Records. If a child needs to have a new book then they need to let the class teacher know at the beginning of the day. Children are encouraged to read daily at home and for this to be recorded in their reading record.
Children not only need to read the text they have been given but also understand the events that are taking place. We will be working on comprehension skills during our Guided Reading sessions.

Below are some booklets to support reading at home.

Spelling Homework

Each child will be given a list of spellings on a Friday. These words are generated from sounds the children have been learning in Phonics, are words they are expected to know within their current year group as well as words they have been struggling to spell in class. Children are asked to learn these spellings at home and to write a sentence for each of the words they are given. Spelling test will take place on a Friday.

Maths Homework
Maths homework is set in a variety of different ways. Children will either receive paper/activity based work that is set in each child's Maths Homework book, or interactive maths which is set using the website My Maths.
Each week a different activity or task will be set based on the learning that has been taking place in school and will be differentiated to meet the needs of each individual child. This will be set every Tuesday and collected in the following Monday.
If children are required to complete an online homework task, this will be recorded in the child's homework book with a brief explanation of what the homework task entails.
Every child has their own log in and password to access their individual homework challenge on My Maths which is recorded in their homework book. If you require a further copy of this information then please speak to either Mrs Davis-Hilliard or Mrs Hughes.
