Maths

Maths in Class 2 is taught through a range of practical and written methods. Each week we have a theme that we focus on and our Maths learning revolves around this. We will update the page regularly so that you can see what Maths the children are currently learning. 

Have a look at the Year 1 and Year 2 Maths Overview so that you can see the objectives we are going to be working towards over the course of this year.

Summer Term 1

During this term we are going to be covering the following topics within our Math lessons.

 

Year 1

  • Counting in 2's and 10's.
  • Making equal groups and sharing.
  • Finding and making halves and quarters.
  • Describing turns and positions. 

 

Year 2

  • The properties of 3D shapes.
  • Recognising and finding halves, quarters and thirds.
  • Counting in fractions.
  • Describing movement and turns.

Year 1

Year 2

Times Tables

 

Below is a guide to the times table expectations in Year 1 and Year 2.

 

Year 1: Count in multiples of 2,5 and 10. Recall and use doubles of all numbers to 10 and corresponding halves.

Year 2: Recall and use multiplication and division facts for the 2, 5 and 10 multiplication tables, including recognising odd and even numbers.

 

When children are confident with their 2, 5 and 10 times table they can be tested by the class teacher and if secure will be awarded the Bronze Times Table Award

 

Your child will have an account for the website times table rock stars where they will be able to play games to test them on the 2, 5 and 10 times table.
