“Hand in hand with God,we live love and learn together.”
“By God’s grace, we learn to loveand love to learn.”
Key Stage 1 Maths
During Year 1 and 2 the children build on the foundations set in the Early Years. We cover the main maths topics such as number, place value, the four operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division), shape, space and measure (2D and 3D shape, position and direction, length, weight, capacity and time) and statistics. Across the two years the children will develop fluency in maths and learn how to reason and problem solve. We teach the mastery approach to mathematics, equipping children so that they can become confident mathematicians.
This half term we are focusing on place value revision and early multiplication for Y1 and multiplication and division for Y2 including the 2, 5 and 10 times tables. Any work that can be done at home for this is really helpful. For early multiplication, counting 'lots of' really helps as does counting in 2s, 5s and 10s. As children move on from KS1 they need to know their 2, 5 and 10 times tables.
