“Hand in hand with God,we live love and learn together.”
“By God’s grace, we learn to loveand love to learn.”
Kingdom of God and Sikhism
Class 3 will be exploring the Christian concept 'The Kingdom of God' through two of the parables that Jesus told. These are called The Parable of the Sower and the Seed and The Parable of the Yeast. We will be thinking about what Jesus was meaning and how Christians use these to help them make sense of the Kingdom of God.
We will then move on to learning about Sikhism and how a Sikh shows that they belong to the faith. We will think about what they wear, how they dress and what they do.
The Church and Advent
Our focus this half term is on what happens when Christians worship in church with the children looking at a range of songs and hymns to learn more about how they help people to worship. They will be thinking about what Christians do at church and how Christians believe it brings them closer to God. In the run up to Christmas this will change to the advent traditions that Christians have such as carols, advent candles, advent calendars and sending Christmas cards. We will learn about how advent means 'coming' and is a time of waiting for the birth of Jesus.
Good News and God
This half term Class 3 have been reading stories about Jesus found in the New Testament. They tell of how Jesus spread the Good News on earth. This first story we have been reading is the Pharisee and the Tax Collector, when Jesus tells people that those who are humble will be great and those that are great will be humbled. We have also been looking at the story of the Calming of the Storm. During this miracle the disciples are scared and ask Jesus for help. They can't understand how he can sleep! When they wake him he calms the wind and the sea, asking the disciples why they had so little faith. The disciples are astounded by this!
In response to this, we created prayers as if we were the Pharisee or the tax collector. We also drew pictures to show parts of the story of the Calming of the Storm.
