“Hand in hand with God,we live love and learn together.”
“By God’s grace, we learn to loveand love to learn.”
Individual reading will occur throughout the week with parent helpers and staff. Each child in Reception will have their books changed two or three times a week. Please ensure that their reading books are placed into the basket when it is their reading day. The basket will have a laminated sign with children's names on who are reading that day.
** New for January 2020**
Thanks to the help of 'Friends of Antrobus PTA' we have recently been able to buy new phonetic reading books in school from Big Cat Collins. Alongside the physical books that children will be sent home with each child in Class 1 will be able to access reading books online during school, holidays, weekends and evenings. A letter explaining how to log in has been sent home and in your child's reading record there is a note stating what colour band your child can select to read up to.
We have a years subscription to this online facility and we are excited to hear your feedback on what you think.
It is vital that children read at home daily, even if it is only for 5-10 minutes. We do not have any other formal weekly homework in class 1, as we emphasise the importance of reading at a young age. This helps to develop not only reading but writing and imaginative skills too. When you have read with your child at home, please date and sign the reading journal so that staff at school know. Thank you.
In Class 1 we will complete guided reading sessions every afternoon.
We will adopt a carousel style approach with 4 work stations;
1. Guided reading with Miss Perry.
2. Hand writing practise.
3. Fine motor activity.
4. Group story based on our author of the term.
(Nursery children are included in this carousel movement although they will not have an official guided reading session with Miss Perry until they are in Reception, they will focus more on listening skills and fine motor skills not the reading of words)
