“Hand in hand with God,we live love and learn together.”
“By God’s grace, we learn to loveand love to learn.”
Individual reading will occur throughout the week, and each child in Reception will have their books changed two or three times. Please ensure that their reading books are placed into the basket when it is their reading day. The basket will have a laminated sign with children's names on who are reading that day.- Initially staff will do this as parents will not be entering classrooms until further notice.
Guided reading will commence from Spring Term in Class 1. Children will be grouped according to their stage not age and will have discussions based on books. We will begin to introduce vocabulary like; title, front cover, blurb, author, illustrator alongside decoding and reading words and interpreting pictures.
Even if another lockdown should occur we will still deliver this via Microsoft Teams.
Big Cat Collins
Thanks to the help of 'Friends of Antrobus PTA' we have recently been able to buy new phonetic reading books in school from Big Cat Collins. Alongside these books we also have a selection of Bug Club phonetic books which the children take home.
For our guided reading sessions we use Rigby Star books.
It is vital that children read at home daily, even if it is only for 5-10 minutes. We do not have any other formal weekly homework in class 1, as we emphasise the importance of reading at a young age. This helps to develop not only reading but writing and imaginative skills too. When you have read with your child at home, please date and sign the reading journal so that staff at school know. Each child will have an envelope with tricky words and phonic sounds taught to look at, at home as often as possible.
In Class 1 we will complete guided reading sessions every afternoon from Spring Term.
We will adopt a carousel style approach with 3 work stations;
1. Guided reading with Miss Perry.
2. Hand writing practise and fine motor skills.
3. Simple sentence forming.
