Textiles
The children were asked to create a glove puppet that they could use in a puppet play.
We started off the unit of work but exploring existing glove puppets, identifying parts and how they had been joined together.
The children then practised their sewing skills, before sewing two pieces of felt together.
The children designed their puppets before creating them. They thought carefully about resources they wanted to use and what they wanted their puppet to look like.
Wheels and Axels
To start this unit of work the chidlren were asked to think about as many different items as possible that have wheels and axels.
The children explored moving vehicles and we learnt about and identified wheels, axels, chassis and axel holders.
The children created moving vehicles out of construction equipment including wheels and axels.
The children experimented with different items to make wheels and axels. They then designed their carriages and collected resources together ready to make them.
The children built their carriages with wheels and axels and then evaluated them against the agreed success criteria.
Levers and Sliders
The children were asked to design and create a moving card themed around Christmas. To start this unit of work the chidlren looked at a selection of books that contained levers and sliders.
The children the learnt about sliders, creating their own.
We then learnt about levers and created our own pictures that included a lever and a pivot.
Each child then designed their own Christmas card and thought about if they were going to use a lever or a slider mechanism to add a moving part.
The children then created their own moving Christmas cards - they were fabulous!
