Our Aims and Objectives at both schools

At Antrobus St Mark's and Great Budworth we ensure that the children access two hours of PE over the week, throughout the school year. During these lessons children are given the opportunity to become physically confident in a way which supports their health and fitness. The children are given the opportunity to develop fundamental skills and apply them when engaging in competitive activities. The curriculum we provide encourages children to develop competences to excel in a broad range of physical activities across dance, gymnastics and games.

Swimming

All pupils also have the opportunity to swim during KS2. Lessons are held at Brio Leisure Centre. Children develop an understanding of water safety and provided with the opportunity to develop their range of swimming strokes. By the end of KS2, if not before, it is our aim for all children to be able to swim over a distance of at least 25 metres competently, confidently and proficiently.

Cycling Proficiency

Children get the opportunity to complete Bike ability training in years 5 and 6 with CBikeright, a national bike awareness cycling program which trains the children in riding safely on the road.

Extra curricular

At both schools, we offer half termly after school clubs. Pupils in multiple year groups have the opportunity to sign up to the clubs and they range from; basketball, football, table tennis, curling, dance, gymnastics and even fencing.

School Sports Partnership Support

As part of our membership with the Vale Royal Schools Sport Partnership we receive support from Lefwich County High School. Staff come into school throughout the year to work alongside staff and pupils to develop specific areas. Physkids is something we annually train our pupils in. Our older pupils in Class 3 are trained up to deliver break and lunchtime clubs and games to the younger members of our school family.

PE at Antrobus

We deliver our Physical Education curriculum through usinng Complete PE. This allows us to carefully select different units to show progression and give children opportunities to develop different skills. We have a clear plan that maps out the key knowledge, skills and vocabulary the children will be working towards achieving by the end of each key stage. At Antrobus we use Complete PE tallowing for depth of learning to take place.

We ensure that learning is progressive and built upon prior learning as the children move through the key stages. This ensures our curriculum delivers clear progression of skills from EYFS to Year 6.

We attend sports competitions and comepte in events with other schools within our cluster.  These events are always one of the below three, they allow all chldren to feel confident to take part and enjoy representing their school.

Celebrate competitions are for children who don’t normally take part in extra-curricular activities or who are not involved a community group. These competitions will focus on school games rather than a traditional point scoring system. Instead there is an emphasis on personal best and improvement. Awards will be given for those demonstrating spirit of the games.

Aspire competitions are to develop physical skills. These competitions are for children who are willing to take part but are not overly competitive. They have a focus on fun skill and improvement.  There is an element in learning to win and lose but the event is always based around improvement and not results. Children should instil pride in representing their school and recognise when peers have performed well.

Inspire- these competitions are for those whose are highly competitive and who are motivated to play sport and are happy with competitions. Although evens are about competing to win the focus is on enjoyment and the priority is still on skill and improvement.

We are very proud to have recieved our Platinum games award.  This is a reflection on how successful PE is at Antrobus both in the school day and in outside competetitions.

P.E at Great Budworth

Here at Great Budworth school we pride ourselves on our ability to promote sport and provide enrichment opportunities to all our pupils.

We attend competitive sports competitions within our local cluster area. The majority of our competitions are hosted by Leftwich High School, where we take our KS2 pupils.

We have just recevied the Gold School Games Mark which we are very proud of.

Here at Great Budworth we focus on inclusion in sport and encouraging all pupils to take part irrelevant of their skill level.

We have skilled and specialist coaches who deliver two hours of P.E to each class per week on Tuesday's and Friday's.

We also enjoy a daily 'Smile for a Mile' where we walk around our school field for 15 minutes per day. This is usually at the end of lunch. On rainy days, we participate in Just Dance in the classroom or other indoor active sessions for 15 minutes. These are often run by our talented Sports Crew children.
