Humanities- Geography and History
Spring Term
For the whole of spring term we will be learning about Kings and Queens. By the end of term the children will-
- Have an understanding of the chronology of various significant British kings and queens, and be able to place some in the correct order.
- Recall some key facts about the different monarchs studied in this unit and make comparisons between the lives of Elizabeth I and Queen Victoria.
- Talk about how we know about the lives of some significant people in history, such as Richard III and use historical facts to support their opinion about them.
Autumn 2
In Autumn 2 our topic is a significant event in British history: The Gunpowder Plot. The children will increase their awareness of the past by finding out about Guy Fawkes and other significant individuals involved in the plot, such as Robert Catesby and Thomas Percy. They will deepen their understanding of the events of the Gunpowder Plot through several speaking and listening activities, such as hot seating and role play, as well as sequencing events and designing posters. A lesson on how bonfire night has been celebrated in Britain since the 1930s is also designed to consolidate their knowledge of changes within living memory.
Autumn 1
In Autumn 1 our topic is What a Wonderful World. We are going to learn the location of countries, continents and oceans of the world and build on our map skills using atlases, world maps and globes. We will also look at journeys that can be made around the world, begin to follow a simple journey line using key vocabulary and follow routes on a map.
