Literacy
Spring 1
This term Year one Children have been looking at the text Grandpa's Gift by Fiona Lumbers. The children have produced lots of descriptive pieces of writing about feelings, places and people. The final outcome will be a descriptive story using the suffixes est and ed.
Autumn 2
Our key text for this half term is Katie goes to London by James Mayhew. We will be looking at the city of London and the famous landmarks. Children will learn to use the pronoun I and will create their own fact file about London using headings.
Year one have been working hard on their presentation, capital letters and finger space. Look at some of the great work we have done.
Autumn 1
This half term we are looking at a text called Meesha makes friends by Tom Percival.
The children are going to be talking about different feelings and sequencing the events in the story, and relating things to their own experiences. Year one children will build up to writing a diary entry in the voice of Meesha.
Literacy in reception and nursery
Reception and nursery children follow the talk through stories programme in literacy. The stories are read to them and they learn favourite phrases throughout so they can join in with the story. They freeze frame some of the characters expressions.
Spring term
So far this term the children have looked at the follwoing books. They have really enjoyed listening to the story ad learning new vocabulary.
Year one and reception have weekly handwriting practise to form our letters and practise our pencil control. They also have follow on writing activities from the story these are completed in small groups.
Nursey and reception children enjoy lying on their tummies to their mark making and drawing. They use their gross motor and fine motor skills.
