💛 PSHE – Be yourself (Year 1 & 2)

This half term in PSHE, our focus is Be Yourself. This unit is inspired by the idea that it is important to have confidence to be yourself. It aims to enable children to identify their strengths and achievements as well as help them to recognise different emotions they experience. In this unit, children will also explore how to express their thoughts and feelings respectfully and how to be assertive when in uncomfortable situations. The children will also have an opportunity to explore the influence of the media in how we view ourselves and analyse the reality of these messages. The unit ends with the children exploring how to make things right when we make mistakes, both in person or online, and the importance of learning from these.

Spring 1-2026

Staying Safe 🛟

In this unit of work, children will learn about everyday dangers both at home and outdoors, and how they can keep themselves safe. Through discussion and practical activities, children will explore simple safety rules and begin to understand how to make safe choices in different situations.

Children will learn about stranger safety, including how to keep themselves safe in real life and online. They will also be introduced to The Underwear Rule, helping them understand the difference between appropriate and inappropriate touching, and that what is covered by their underwear is private. This is taught in a sensitive, age-appropriate way, with a strong focus on listening to their feelings and knowing who they can talk to if they feel worried or unsure.

The unit also helps children learn about people who help us in the community and how to ask for help when needed, supporting their growing understanding of responsibility for their own safety.

Autumn 2

Safety First (Year 1 & 2)

This half term in PSHE, our focus is on keeping ourselves safe — both at home and when we’re out and about. The children will be learning to recognise everyday dangers and how to make sensible choices to stay safe.

We’ll be talking about:

· How to stay safe at home and outside.

· Understanding what to do if they ever feel worried or unsafe.

· Stranger safety, including learning about safe strangers (like police officers, teachers, or doctors) who can help us.

· Online safety, helping children to begin understanding how to use technology safely.

· The Underwear Rule (PANTS) – a gentle and age-appropriate way to help children understand that their body belongs to them, that what’s covered by their underwear is private, and that they should always tell a trusted adult if something doesn’t feel right.
